0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 29 Second

Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton, and Founder of the fashion brand, “OFF WHITE” VIRGIL ABLOH, dies @40

1980

Abloh was born on September 30 outside of Chicago. He and his sister are raised in nearby Rockford, by Ghanaian immigrant parents. Abloh attends the Boylan Catholic High School—official colors green and white—and graduates in 1998. His mother is a seamstress and teaches him the tricks of her trade.

Virgil Abloh, Founder of OFF WHITE

2002

Abloh completes his undergraduate degree in civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. (In 2015, he would return to design commemorative tees for the university.) Rumor has it that on the day of his graduation, he skips his final critique to take a meeting with Kanye West’s then-manager John Monopoly. West and Abloh begin officially working together soon after.

2006

Abloh completes his master’s degree in architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology. During his time at IIT, a Rem Koolhaas building is completed, which Abloh says, “piqued my interest and opened my gateway into fashion.”

2009

Abloh and West become interns at Fendi in Rome. Louis Vuitton CEO Michael Burke recently told The New York Times, “I was really impressed with how [Abloh and West] brought a whole new vibe to the studio and were disruptive in the best way. Virgil could create a metaphor and a new vocabulary to describe something as old-school as Fendi. I have been following his career ever since.”

Abloh and West, along with a crew of famous friends, make the rounds at Paris Fashion Week, turning heads in the process. They’re photographed by Tommy Ton for Style.com outside of the Comme des Garçons show in what becomes a widely circulated pic. Abloh tells W magazine, “We were a generation that was interested in fashion and weren’t supposed to be there. We saw this as our chance to participate and make current culture. In a lot of ways, it felt like we were bringing more excitement than the industry was.”

2010

Abloh officially assumes the role of creative director at Donda, West’s creative agency.

2011

Abloh art directs the album Watch the Throne by Jay-Z and West, an achievement that earns him a Grammy nomination. The album cover is designed by Riccardo Tisci, then the creative director of Givenchy, a role Abloh was rumored to be up for after Tisci’s departure in 2017.

2012

Abloh launches his first brand, Pyrex Vision, in New York. He purchased deadstock Ralph Lauren flannel shirts for $40 each, and screen printed them with the word Pyrex and the number 23, an homage to his childhood hero, Michael Jordan. They sell for $550 each.

2013

Abloh shutters Pyrex and founds Off-White, a multi-platform creative endeavor based in Milan. Its main medium is fashion. At Off-White, he combines ideas of streetwear, luxury, art, music, and travel, defining the brand simply as, “the gray area between black and white as the color Off-White.” From the get-go, hovering quotation marks become Abloh’s signature.

2014

Abloh launches his first brand, Pyrex Vision, in New York. He purchased deadstock Ralph Lauren flannel shirts for $40 each, and screen printed them with the word Pyrex and the number 23, an homage to his childhood hero, Michael Jordan. They sell for $550 each.

  • 2018

Abloh is named the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collections, stepping into the role vacated by his friend and mentor Kim Jones. “It is an honor for me to accept this position. I find the heritage and creative integrity of the house are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern times,” he says in a statement.

FIGHT AGAINST CONSUMPTION OF MKPURU MMIRI (METHAMPHETAMINE) : A Call for a New strategy

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 10 Second

One of the greatest threat today in Igbo land especially in our dear state, Anambra is drug abuse among youths.

Various community youth leadership in Anambra State have adopted flogging anyone found to be taking the MET (Mkpuru Mmiri).

The question has been, will such beating solve or stop someone that is already addicted to that?

My view is that we should embark on advocacy, reorientation and rehabilitation programs among other things as approach against the new threat from consumption of ‘Mkpuru Mmiri’. The government and civil society organizations should lead this strategy.

In Anambra State, the state Ministries of Health, Youth, Women affairs, LGA etc should synergies and coordinate the advocacy, reorientation and rehabilitation of youths on issue of Mkpuru Mmiri menace.

In Anambra State, we have in existence, a well organized local community administrative system(Town Union). Community administrative system in Anambra State remain a major infrastructure through which the above listed State Government Ministries and Civil organisations can effectively manage the growing ‘Mkputu mmiri’ abuse in the state.
The rehabilitation content should accommodate training them on various skill for productivity purposes.

We can not be facing such challenge and the state govt agencies that should initiate intervention will be busy in Awka while the labour force of the state is under threat due to drug abuse.

You cannot separate the growing consumption of Mkpuru Mmili from violent crime that is creeping into our state.

There is need for the government to takeover the narrative on the issue of Mkpuru Mmiri in the state.

If Awka is too busy to look into the happenings in various communities, why not devolve powers to LGAs who are closer to the people?

I therefore, call for new policy regime in confronting this threat as flogging mkpurummiri users won’t solve the scaring challenges in Igboland?

– Senator Andy Uba.

What is methamphetamine used for?

Methamphetamine as  described by expert and health practitioners..

methamphetamine abuse

The abuse of Crystal Meth, otherwise known as Methamphetamine has been increasing with time, in the bid to integrate, many youths have found themselves lost in the euphoria of the joy they (addicts) claim it gives

Methamphetamine damages most organs of the body and leaves the addictor in a total mess, damage to brain tissues which causes insanity, draining of the nutrients that sustains the body, hence leaving it’s victim as a skeletal being.

Refers to  https://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/drugfacts/methamphetamine

treatment of methamphetamine

As at the moment, there has not been any cure to the menace caused by crystal meth, hence the perfect cure is total restrainment from the deadly drug.

FG Set to Support The 36 states In Nigeria with 18B EAch

0 0
Read Time:6 Minute, 7 Second

In a bid to help State governments meet financial obligations, especially the previous budget support facility due for repayment, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a fresh N656billion Bridge Financing Facility to the 36 States. Each State would receive N18.2B.

This was disclosed today at NEC’s 121st meeting (10th in 2021), which was held virtually and was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, with State Governors, Federal Ministers, the Central Bank Governor, and other senior government officials in attendance.

The Honourable Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning, Dr Zainab Ahmed, informed the Council that the Bridge Facility is now being processed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The approved Bridge facility of N656.112billion will be disbursed in six tranches over a period of six months to the States.

Expectedly, each of the 36 States will have a total loan amount of N18.225billion; with a 30-year tenor, and a 2-year moratorium at an interest rate of 9%.

The Facility is to help the States afford the repayment of previous bailout facilities guaranteed for them by the Federal Government.

It would be recalled that on 15th of July, 2021, the Council had received updates on the Budget Support Facility to States. At that meeting, the Finance Minister had informed the Council that the deductions from State Governments would commence soon as repayment for the previous bailout from the CBN. Subsequently, the States sought further support leading to the idea of bridge financing.

Also at today’s NEC, the Executive Director/CEO of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib, informed the Council on the Status of the country’s COVID-19 Vaccine roll-out.

Dr Shuaib noted that Nigeria has received over 100 million doses of COVID–19 vaccines (from COVAX, African Union, other countries) which he said was sufficient to ramp up vaccination for about 50 per cent of the targeted population.

The total eligible population of Nigerians for the vaccine is over 111 million, he added.

“Given the availability of vaccines, we have started rolling out a plan to vaccinate 50 percent of Nigerians, 18 years and above by January 31st, 2022,” the NPHCDA DG said, adding that there would be a scaling up of over 3,000 health facilities nationwide.

In his presentation to the Council on State performance report on COVID-19, the Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa said Nigerians must continue to maintain and sustain the COVID-19 response, especially as it enters the holiday period where there will be anticipated travels within and outside the country, as well as mass events to herald the holiday season.

Adetifa said the country should “maintain visibility of the outbreak by testing, continuing to encourage adherence to public health and social measures, encourage vaccination and address vaccine hesitancy.”

The DG, NCDC added that the Delta variant of the COVID-19 is still the dominant strain of concern in the country.

Chinwetalu Agu, Nigerian Comic Actor released from Army Custody

representatives of the Actors Guild of Nigeria

Nollywood Actor, Chiwetalu Agu, on Friday, donned the same ‘Biafra outfit’ that landed him in trouble with soldiers when he was released at the Army Headquarters in Enugu State.
It was earlier reported that soldiers on Thursday arrested the actor around Upper Iweka Bridge in Onitsha for wearing an outfit with Biafra inscriptions.

Agu was reportedly on a charity mission to the less privileged when he was arrested by soldiers.
The Nigerian Army in a statement said that the actor was arrested “while inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.”

The Army also said the actor “dressed in a very well known attire of the proscribed group”, adding that he was being questioned.
But in a video posted by Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, on his Instagram page on Friday, Agu was captured with two representatives of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
One of the AGN representatives said the actor is hale and hearty.

‘This is rising sun, not Biafra, not Eastern Security Network,’ Actor Chiwetalu Agu defends outfit

Speaking in the video recorded on the premises of the Army Headquarters in Enugu, Agu, who wore the same outfit he had on when he was arrested, encouraged Nigerians to “keep supporting Nollywood. It’s the only hope we have to sustain both our public and private lives.”
Earlier in a viral video, the actor was seen seated on a bare floor with soldiers around him.
Agu had said, “I can wear this…this is rising sun, not Biafra, not Eastern Security Network…This is a civil dress
“With my education, I know areas to go, areas not to go

“I was sharing 10,000 worth of bread when he (soldier) came, no campaign, nobody was doing any demonstration or carrying people along. Even people who were hawking, I was giving them bread.”
Some Nigerians who were gutted by the action of the military had described the actor’s arrest as illegal.
